Hello,

I am a trying to build myself a computer, but this is my first time installing a motherboard. I have a Gigabyte GA-7ZX motherboard with an Athlon 800.

I've been reading some about how to install the MB into the case, but the MB manual doesn't say anything about how to install it.

A few places I've read say that if you have a brass standoff in the case where there is no hole in your MB for it, it can short-circuit your computer.

However, in the case I have there are some sort of risers in the case where I don't have holes in my MB to put screws in, and so I'm wondering if these might do the same thing to my computer if they are touching the bottom of the motherboard. I have a picture of my case so you know what I mean (www.geocities.com/dustin_willms).

I also have one spot where I could put a screw in but the hole is depressed into the case, which is also shown in the picture. If you have any instructions on how to do this, I would appreciate it. Thanks

-Dustin

Place the motherboard into the case and spot it exactly where it is suppose to go by aligning the slots and connection on the rear of the case. Use some tooth picks and insert one into each hole that is in the motherboard that has the solder rings around them. Carefully remove the board and place the brass standoffs into these marked holes and you should be ok.

One more thing. If you havn't already done so, you should be able to remove the back plate compleley from the case. There are usualy only two screws holding this in place. It is then easier to mount the motherboard on the back plate outside the case, insert the memory, CPU and heatsink and connect the cables from the front panel. The whole can then be reassembled into the case with only the power and expansion cards needed to be fitted.

If there is a hole in your board where the green arrow points, I would suggest not using a screw there. Since there is no riser at that location, it would distort the board
