Turn off, remove ac. use esd workstation and foot or wrist esd. Open computer. install drive and connect. Return to service and power it up. May in some cases have to set bios or at least save but depends.

Why did it take me over a year to phone in a problem to ATT?

I assume your computer already has an optical drive & you're upgrading? Unplug the power cord, remove both side panels from the case & you'll see the 4 screws (2 on each side) that hold the old drive in place. Unplug the power cable & data cable that's connected to the rear of the drive, take out the 4 screws, then slide the drive outward & remove thru the front of the case. If your swapping an IDE drive for an IDE drive, look at the jumper setting at the rear of the old drive & set the jumper on the new drive the same way. If it's a SATA drive, there is no jumper. Installation is the reverse order. If done correctly, the drive will be auto-detected at bootup. No BIOS changes should be necessary.

One thing that wasn't clarified above is that you need to buy a drive with the type of connections that you have available. There are both IDE/ATA and SATA types. The data and power connections are different. IDE/ATA can be easily identified by the wide ribbon data cable (over an inch) as opposed to SATA, which is almost round, usually red in color.

Look at for great prices on drives. use the link below.
