how to get data from floppy to CD (no flp drv

Specs: Windows XP
My computer has Windosw XP, and a CD drive, DVD drive, and several USB ports. My friend gave me two floppys with a document on it in word he would like me to edit. He does not recall what program it was written in (his first language is Japanese and he is very elderly and v. unfamiliar with computers in general). Someone wrote the document for him years ago and now he would like it edited by me. Is there a place I can go to have this done since I do not have the right equipment? I do not know anyone who still has a floppy drive in his/her desktop computer. Any suggestions would be v. much appreciated.

You obviously need a floppy drive. How do you expect any of us to be able to help?

It's hard to believe you can't find a computer with a floppy drive but you could probably take the disks to any computer shop and explain the situation to them. It shouldn't be much of a problem for them to copy the files to a cd. There are also 3.5" external floppy drives but it might be an unnecessary expense to buy one if you only plan on using it this once

You mention they were written several years ago. Are the disks regular 3.5" or are they the older 5.25"?

Also, unless they were well tended to in the years since their creation it's possible they are now no good.

Real men don't use AntiVirus; they just reformat
