how to fix a black screen on a laptop compaq

Specs: Windows 7
I put a used USB card in my computer that I had never used before. As I was going through some of the pictures that were already on it, my computer screen got blurry with colored lines going horizontally through it, then it crashed completely. When I turn it on, the screen is black and won't start up. The wireless light is also off and I can't get it to start in safe mode. Please let me know if you know what the problem could be and/or how to fix it.

what you need to do is diagnose the problem and understand if it is the graphics card or the screen, so here is what you need to do:

1) plug a monitor into the laptop via the VGA port, you may need to press the Fn key and the display key to make it display to the monitor. if you see windows booting on the monitor than it means your laptop screen is dead, but this can easily be changed. If you do not see anything then it means your graphics chip is dead and that is very difficult and expensive to repair.

Try this and let us know what you find. make sure that you do press the Fn key and the display key a few times to make sure you send the display to the monitor.

Thanks,
