The most common reason for a printer not working properly is you did not install the software for it properly by using the installation directions.
if it connects to the computer via a USB cable, you DO NOT plug in the USB cable until AFTER you have installed at least some of the software for the printer.
DO NOT install drivers for the printer when the operating system finds a new device that is the printer, BEFORE you have installed the software for the printer.
The printer may not be detected properly when it's plugged into certain USB ports.
