How do you know there's a hidden recycle bin? A 500GB HDD (advertised) is approx 465GB (actual).

i have plugged it into a friends computer and it has come up with a faded $recycle file... is this not a hidded recycle bin? It is showing me that i only have 465gig to use so at least i now know that there isn't space wasted by files in a recycle bin. Thank you for clearing up that bit for me. do you know anything about the faded file though?

Delete it.

For hidden files you can use command prompt command attrib. May have to set bits to unhide or unprotect in some cases.

Explorer can view hidden and system if you set it.
