Subject: How to determine EDO RAM MB?OS: Windows98SECPU/Ram: K6-2 500 Mhz./ EDO RAM 64 |
Comment: Hi all Could anybody help me determining how many megabytes of a stick of EDO RAM with part number printed on the sticker as follows: SEC KMM 5328104BK-6U KOREA 9715H While on each chip printed as follows: SEC KOREA 713 KM44C4104BK-6 There are 8 chips on each side of the stick. What I found from the internet was its manufacturer was SAMSUNG. Its specification quoted in www.imarketlive.com as : EDO 8x32-60-16C-2K. I don't know what 8x32 and 2K means? But guess that 60 means 60ns, 16C means 16 chips. However, I need to know how many MB. on one stick. I bought 2 of them from someone who claimed that there are 64MB on each stick. But when putting them on my ASUS SP97-V, which support upto 64MB on each bank, each stick has only 32MB. How can I determine its size in MB? Thanks Banphotu

Reply: (edit)The 8 X 32 sticks are 32 meg. To decipher that you divide the byte length (8 bit) into the 32 to get 4. Then you multiply that 4 times the first 8 to get 32. So a 4 x 32 is 16 meg, 2 x 32 is 8 meg, and so on. Similar notation on a 64 meg stick would be 16 x 32.

Reply: (edit)You're welcome. The notation is kind of confusing. Sometimes people unfamiliar with it will see '2 x 32' for example and assume incorrectly it means 2 sticks of 32 meg.

Reply: (edit)Hi there. How do you use www.imarketlive.com to get you the information about an unknown RAM module? I tried with the above SEC (Samsung) module, but with no luck. Can you help me, please?
