I want to connect my printer to both my MAC and my PC which are not in a network. I have linked the printer, MAC and PC via an external manual switch (USB) but the printing does not start. When I change the manual switch to PC a message appears on the screen of my PC that the USB apparatus is not recognised. What am I missing?
The USB signal is not transferring through the manual switch cleanly. I had one. Worked for a few months then quit. I went to networking after that. If the printer works just fine when plugged directly into the machines, the switch is the problem. The proper switching system should be 'break-before-make'. Crossing electronic signals can cause issues. Some mechanical switches are not 'clean' enough to work proper with USB.
