How to CMOS Asus X55C

Specs: Windows 7
Hello, my laptop had windows 7 32 bit. The bios somehow was "skipped" and the pc started with CD or OS. Now I reininstalled windows (for cleanup).

After that I noticed very often freezes. (The pc just freezes and nothing happends). I have to shut it down.

I wanted to check if RAM is damaged so I burned a Memtest CD but when I entered it and tryed to start booting from it, it was just skipped and Windows 7 was loaded. I couldn't do anything on the startup (F8, DEL, F12 ... Tryed it all)

So I guessed the bios is somehow strange behaving and maybe need an update. SO i flashed the bios to a newer version.

Now the pc will only get to the BIOS screen and windows won't start anymore. If I exit bios bios is loaded again.

I googled and found something about "cmos" (taking out the battery for some time on laptops)

I opened the latop found the HDD but no Battery.
What to do now?

Thanks in advance. And I'm very sorry for my english.

Even if you found a CMOS battery you wouldn't be able to clear the settings. That is by design on laptops.

A brand and model number would be useful.

BIOS updates should only be done when essential (vary rarely) so I hope you haven't bricked the motherboard.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

What you describe doesn't point to a faulty bios or bad cmos battery.

Bios setup for that model should be F2. Start tapping that key after turning it on but before windows normally starts loading.

If you want to boot from a cd or dvd then the cd or dvd drive needs to be first in the boot order in bios setup. If it's already first but still not booting from the disk then maybe you didn't create a bootable disk.

The problem is that windows isn't loading anymore. When I start the laptop I get access to the new bios and thats it. I can't start windows anymore. Only bios will load. When I exit bios, bios is loaded again.

I tryed to load something like windows 7 or linux mint (which are bootable burned) but only bios will show up!

While you're in bios setup you may need to configure some stuff. Most bios' have a 'default' option you can use that should suffice. That may be necessary because usually when doing a bios upgrade the settings are cleared and it's booting to bios setup because they're not set. Check the date there too.

"I can't start windows anymore. Only bios will load. When I exit bios, bios is loaded again"

You need to press F2 at startup to get into BIOS setup, then you can reconfigure the settings & change the boot order. Make sure to save your changes before exiting. It sounds like your hard drive may have died.
