Subject: How $ should this computer sell forOS: windows xpCPU/Ram: 1.8/1gb |
Comment: Hi, im thinking about building a new computer this summer, but i need some money towards it. so im gonna sell my old computer on ebay or some other site, now i need an opinion on how much it will see for. Sempron 3200+ performance rated at 3.2, running at 1.8 x800gt 1gb ram pc 3200 msi amethyst m mobo (ms-7184) 250 watt PSU and a supercooled case, runs at 37 C after playing oblvion at 1024*768, got really good airflow. im not gonna include monitor or nothing, just tower. ive seen way worse computers sell for $400 like this one http://cgi.ebay.com/Amd-Gaming-computer_W0QQitemZ8823089585QQihZ005QQcategoryZ51123QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Reply: (edit)Err......your rig is NOT way better than that one from ebay. If you decide to auction it off, do the same thing (7-day listing) that seller did & start your listing @ $0.01

Reply: (edit)It appears that your rig is either an HP/Compaq or eMachine...that's definitely not a major selling point. The ATI based microATX board is nothing to brag about & the S939 Sempron isn't even available to the general public, at least not thru retail stores. The 250W PSU is woefully inadequate...I'm surprised it hasn't caused any problems (or has it?). 1GB RAM is good & the video card is fairly decent, it's hardly cutting edge though. Newegg is selling the SAPPHIRE Radeon X800GT 256MB for $90 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102635R All your stuff is used & comes with no warranty, plus you have to take into account what new systems are selling for these days. I know I certainly wouldn't pay $400 for it. Then again, there are a lot of suckers out there.

Reply: (edit)a 250watt psu is waaaay underpowered for your pc, I am actauilly surprised it is stiull working. you might get a couple of hundred bucks if you find the right person. the problem is you are looking to sell to someon that knows nothing about PC's but, since they know nothing, they think they can go to Dell and get a NEW PC that is equiv for $299 new w/warranty (actually, that isnt far from the truth as yours really isnt any better) but, if someone that actually knows a little bit runs across yours, there is n way they'll buy it as it is a low end pc.

Reply: (edit)Look at it from the other side of the fence, just think somewhere out there is someone that is in the predicament, but less knowledgeable about computers. No I'm not trying to preach, but I will say tell the truth about the system and you'll probably get a greater return on your money. Plus if the system fails then you don't have someone knocking at the door wanting their money back. $250 would be fair because someone will surely have to replace the power supply. I've done work for people before and apart of their payment was maybe an old PC that no one used any more. I've taken them home put a little work into them, then sold them for the parts I had to replace or even some cases gave them away. I admit most of PCs are only good for slow Internet surfing or school work. The main thing is I've never had anybody come back say I was unfair with them. Sorry if sound a little sanctified, but on the other side of fence the sucker as you call them could be yourself.
