I have a dell dimension 2400 2.4 gh cpu ,
it had 512 mb of ram , i upgrated to 1gb ram stick also keeping a 256 ram stick in the other slot , thus giving me 1.25 gb of total ram ,my question is for performance gain should i keep the 256 in or just use the 1gb of ram , it seems to run good now but i have a 40 gb hd using xp pro , can anyone give me some tips on how to get top performance out of this pc,any tips on speeding up cpu without any overclocking.
I just want to make sure im getting best performance for what i have.

Your machine will take 2 gigs of pc3200 ddr400 ram. I would max it out instead of using the 256 meg chip. I think the original ram was pc2700. If it is and you bought pc3200, your ram will only run at 2700 with it installed. Put in 2 pc 3200 chips.
