Subject: how much power do i need?OS: windows xp proCPU/Ram: pentium4 2.4gig/ 512ddr40 |
Comment: im building a new computer and the case i bought comes with a 300watt powersupply, im also planning on having a geforce4 ti4200 64mb videocard and on the box it says that i need at least a 350 watt powersupply. can i get away with using a 300 watt supply? how much power does each component in a pc use anyway? if i do need a new powersupply, how much power do u think i need and where can i find some inexpensive ones? thanks in advance!

Reply: (edit)You can use a 300 but yes the GF4 Ti cards require at least 350. It WILL WORK with a 300 watt psu but honestly you dont want to skimp on your power supply. Alot of manufacturers tend to downplay the importance of the power supply. Get a 350-400. You will not need anything more than that for standard computing needs. Get basically what you can afford. Antec make great power supplies as do Enermax.
