Subject: How much is my computer worth?OS: Windows XP Media Center ECPU/Ram: Pentium 4 650 (3.4 GHz w/Manufacturer/Model: Dell E510 |
Comment: I've decided to upgrade to an uber-gaming machine, and was wondering just how much I could get for this computer. It's used, but in fine condition, and plays most current games quite nicely. Help is greatly appreciated! Video Card: eVGA e-GeForce 7800 GT HD: 80 GB

Reply: (edit)You didnt describe your computer very well... but generally used systems are not worth very much. You might get 75 for the used vid card and maybe 50 for the HD if you are lucky. Keepsakes for Keeps http://www.pctec.ca/

Reply: (edit)I don't really see how I didn't describe my computer very well... I gave the video card, hard drive, processor, memory, OS, and the model. And the 7800 GT is a three-hundred some dollar card. I don't quite see it being worth $75.

Reply: (edit)You have to look & see how much a new Dell, of the same spec. is selling & then deduct a percentage for it being 2nd user etc. Yours is fairly recent, & I haven't checked to see if the extras you mention are add-ons or standard, but you can reckon on deducting at least 1/3rd in depreciation, & then it's a case of whether you're likely to find a buyer - as Dell are desperate to sell units at the moment, 2nd user Dells are going to fetch less than other high-spec. brands so anyone with the cash is more likely to go for new rather than 'old'. Basically, it's a buyer's market at the moment. "I know that I'm mad, I've always been mad"

Reply: (edit)It's a Dell? Pull the video card & sell it separately. Pull some of the RAM too...you might be able to reuse it or sell it....leave it with 512MB so that it performas reasonably well? Remove any other "pricey" upgrades that you might be able to sell or reuse. Basically, return it to the way it was originally from Dell (except for the RAM) & see if you can get a couple hundred?

Reply: (edit)I was really just hoping to sell the computer in one piece, as I don't really know of anyone who needs a graphics card or memory, though I may be able to find someone who needs a computer. I was thinking of eBay selling, but with the money they take from you... I just don't think it's worth it. My easiest method would simply be to find someone in my area and sell them the computer. The only problem is that right now, I can't find anyone.
