Subject: How much hard disk space needed?OS: 98SECPU/Ram: 600/96 |
Comment: Okay.. im making the best out of my old 600 Mhz rig and getting old DOS games such as X con and along with some slightly newer games liek star craft and Caesar III, My question is what is the ammount of disk space that I should keep open to keep things running smoothly. I currently have a 10 GB hard drive and im down to 5 GBs, Im running Windows 98 SE as well and I have 96 MBs of ram. ( might be 128 soon. ) I was thinking that if i kept 1 GB open that should be enough to keep things from dying on me?

Reply: (edit)It really depends on what you programs you use. For example, creating DVDs can use several GBs in the c:\windows\temp folder.

Reply: (edit)in the modern age HD space isn't so important unless your'e storing a lot of files or you are doing some heavy operations (although i must admit that 1 GB is a very little) but as long as you have a nice amount of RAM HD space shouldn't be a problem, but don't remember to clean your recycling bin. but if you are burning CD's then you would need a nice amount of free space. also you can disable options like system restore, paging file, and hibernation - that would give back a nice amount of space
