I have heard of as many as 4, but you are looking at hardware hell. To get 4 or 3 cards working and the drivers to exist in harmony is more than I want to try. Especially since Matrox already has a triple head card. There may be others out there. On wall street it is common to have this card with 3 LCD displays showing three different exchanges at once. They even have special pedistals that stagger the displays slightly behaind one another with a slight overlap so the bezels overlap and 3 17" LCD displays fit nicely on a desktop. Chek it out.

Windows XP has a 10 display limit.
A PCI FX5200 gives 2 additional monitor ports.
There are many Nvidia and ATI dual head cards. Matrox makes 2, 3 and 4 head video cards. Xentera makes a 2, 4, and 8 head PCI video card.
