Subject: how many fans in a computer?
OS: xp
CPU/Ram: 256
Comment:

I went on a site to look for a fan to build the computer. What kind of fan do I need? more than one? I saw on my current computer that there is one on the mother boear and a big one to cool the computer.
I am buying a motherboard with fan included.
I also saw another fan at http://www.microdirect.co.uk/companypages/products/cases/caseaccessories/akasa/fanaka170bl/fanaka170bl.htm. Will that be necessary?

The kinds of fans you'll need will be based on whether or not your case already has holes cut for more. The size of those holes will determine the size you'd have to buy if you wanted to install more.

As for the number, that will depend what kind of processor you're running, as well as, what graphics card, and other accessories. Newer faster devices tend to get hot, so if you're going to have a bunch of thing in the case, then get a couple extra fans to cool it.

That kind wouldn't necessarily be the correct one. You may want to email the place where you're getting your case from and ask if it has any hole for extra fans, and if so, what sizes they are.

My P3 750MHZ , has a intake fan at the front of the tower , a fan that blows air out of the case on the poer supply at te rear of the case. There is a fan and heat sink on the proccessor/M.B. , The Graphics card I installed also has a small fan on it .I then added a slot fan by Antec. It fits into any empty expansion slot at rear of tower and took about 5 minutes to put in. Antec has a line of add on fans , besides the slot fan I added ,they have bay fans that fit into any empty CD bay at the front of the tower. My PC runs cool as a cucunber !

It depends on what cpu u are using. AMD or Intel? Intel's don't get as hot, so the number of fans should be minimal. AMD's however, get hotter thus more fans are needed to cool them down.

Primarly, it is a good idea to have 1 intake, and 1 exhaust fan on any type of computer. Intake (lower front of case), Exhaust(upper rear of case). The key here is to retain proper air flow through out the case. i.e. air moving continuely from front to back).

If you do this, you will provide adequete cooling for your hardware. If u need more cooling power just install an additional fan.

In the future....post all of your system specs before u post. It really makes it hard to give a solid answer to your quesion without them.

Looks to me like it's all there (unless you want a NIC card) and it looks like it'll all work.
There are probably some cheaper ways to go though, such as the new Dvd drives that also function as a cd-r/w.

As for it being good, that'll depend on your expected uses for it.

If it's a gaming PC, you'll most likely want to get a faster video card than that. (Radeon 9700 if you can afford it or Geforce FX once it comes out)

If it's going to be just a daily use one (email, web browsing, word processing, etc.) then it should be plenty fast enough to do anything you'd need it for.

Take my advice from the earlier post. Don't waste your money on the MX 440! Go with at least a ti4200.

It is for both daily use and gaming. For gamimg I would like it to be at a very good performance. However I am a student and I can't afford to spend a lot on it. The Radeon 9700 is far too expensive. For the Ti4200 I am not sure what to take and they still look expensive :(
Can you do me a favor? It won't give me the full link on the site. Can you go to www.microdirect.co.uk and there is a search box on the left, I just put ti4200 in it. Suggest me what is the best quality/price product.

Hey first off with those specs your gunna need to have a very good heatsink fan (the fan on you cpu) and a lot of fans on your case. Here is a great case http://www.dealsonic.com/raida2atxmid.html I am just warning you..if your going to get an AMD cpu prepare for a loud ass computer unless if you get water cooling which i doubt you will (they are like 900 bucks). Soooo for your heatsink get a volcano 9 they are very good and quiet.

And as for the card get this http://www.cmicomputer.com/cgi-bin/quikstore.cgi?product=vc64gf4ti42&detail=yes it is the 4200 and a great deal.

Head on over to www.pricewatch.com for awesome prices.

A NIC card is for networking, which if you're at college, you may not need (unless they let you on the school network, in which case, go for it)
