I'm thinking of getting a new comp from http://www.cyberpowersystem.com/ but am curious as to whether or not its a good place to buy from or not. Opinions?

Also... if anyone knows... does the site usually have better coupons (then the 5% off) usually by the holiday season?

Never heard of them. How about some place that someone may have actually used? Like Newegg?

CyberPower's high end systems are tested quite often in mags like MaximumPC & get very good ratings. You MUST be familiar with PC hardware though & it's best to "custom configure" rather than going with one of their "pre-configured" setups. Be aware that a custom built system will take longer to have delivered.

I'm familiar with PCs, but no where near an expert. I've asked people on here if certain comps would work and I think I know what to get and what not to.

tho I've read many reviews on cyberpower... apparently their customer service is not good. I hear their parts are B rated (I'm guessing they're not as good then?), and hear their parts get messed up or have problems.

What I wanna know is if they simply pick and choose pieces and voila... or if they're actually PC experts who have problems from cyberpower.

I didn't see a whole lot of satisfied customers on that link!

Like I said, you have to know your computer hardware & you should custom configure to get your best deal.

Have a look at the Gamer Ultra 7500 SE. Change the case, go with a board based on the nForce4 Ultra or SLi, upgrade the video, upgrade to a gaming LCD monitor, choose a single DVD burner & dump the other optical drive, downgrade the speakers (or if you have some decent ones, don't get any), upgrade the keyboard & mouse, go with a formatted HDD & install the OS yourself.

Do all the above & you'll have a much better system & it will cost you the same or less than their price of $975.

And as far as tech support goes...if you know what you're doing, you should never have to call them anyway.

So basically keep the floppy drive and change out everything else? LOL

Close, but not quite...you still keep the CPU, RAM, & HDD.

Changing stuff around is what custom configuring is all about. The 7500SE isn't bad as-is, but it can be better. Did you look at their site & go thru the customize process to see what you can do?

I usually changed around one of the "specials", because it had free shipping. Are the prices higher on the "free shipping specials"? Or should I just configure a gaming PC with a shipping fee?

also... on mother boards... get a nForce4 SLI or Ultra? Theres only one ultra and its fairly pricey.

I have a windows XP cd... but is it hard to install an OS? It only has SP1 (so I'd have to hassle with upgrading to SP2, but it would save me $90). And does it "really" matter when the the disc says for use on Compaq or HP PC's only?

thanks.
