I am shopping for bare bone system with Amd Ahtlon micro processor XP serie.
Big question is heat and CPU speed.
How much difference between XP 2500 and XP 2800 ? There is 50 dollars difference.
Big question is it worth it? Faster CPU more heat???!!!! I am not spending too much because I know Pc will be fast obsolete!

depending on your motherboard and memory...
the ideal set up would be an nForce2 motherboard and some decent pc3200 memory and i'd go with the 2500+, because you can get it up to 3200+ ( 2.2 ghz )speeds on stock vcore...i have an abit nf-7s mobo,2500+ and corsair pc3200 and it's rock solid stable at 200 X 11 = 2.2 ghz @ stock vcore of 1.65...have aftermarket cooling (swiftech mcx462+ heatsink and an 80mm torbado fan) and i run 35-38c cpu idle temps and 20c system temps

Everything in computers is relative. There is a difference in speed. Is it worth the extra dough? Not in my opinion. Whenever you buy the newest of anything, you pay a premium. Chances are you wouldn't notice the difference. If you are looking for total system performance, you are probably better off spending to cash on something else, like a better graphics card or better memory. If you look at my specs you will see I am still running an 1800xp. Thats all I need right now. I do CAD on this box and it still gets the job done. I have a TIVO built with a duron 1300 and ATI 7500AIW. That box could use more muscle. My point is, it depends on what you do with the machine. One other point, if your so inclined, you may be able to run that 2500 faster anyway. Buy a MB with overclock options and try.

As far as I know the 2500+ is a thoughorbred core and the 2800+ is a barton. Which makes the 2 chips very different.
