For hard drive, if u can go with the Seagate NS series, they are tough, fast and cheap, recommend the 320GB

For dvd, get Lite-on instead. Best reader so far.

CPU: go with 2.4 quad core since they are same price.

The only thing that's "iffy" is the power supply. It's a good one, but the split +12v rail may be insufficient. If it hasn't been ordered yet, consider one with a single +12v rail. Here's an example:

"For dvd, get Lite-on instead. Best reader so far."

careful on this one. if you want to play games watch out. some games dont like select Lite-on drives at all. i think they use to use ghost drives for piracy that look like Lite-on and since then some games just wont run off em.

but if you can try getting a drive with lightscribe and there great. but be warned the drve that can burn a full disk of data in 2mins takes 30 mins to do the label.

all text needs typos. There there for the reader to find,to distract them from the total lack of content.
google it! wasnt the answer to the question i asked so dont be dense and give me that repl

"Hi am building myself a new computer. This is the first time i have ever built one."

congrats ! i can sense your excitement. in the world of computing, this is an exercise you will thoroughly enjoy doing and more so when you see your "baby" take off lol. my first build was 9 years ago and i just WISH i could go through it again (even the trauma of the usual "HDD not being detected" - incorrect jumper setting)

take your time with the build, learn. if something doesn't go quite right, then appreciate that fact >>>> its fun trying to rectify it. there are some cluey gurus in here (not me lol) and elsewhere on the net.

good luck :)

you will love building a new computer! my first build was 2 years ago when i was 12. I loved it (apart from the whole being a slow computer because i only had £100 to spend on parts!)

"I was 40 before I ever touched a computer."

was 44 in 1996. wanted to play Micro$oft Golf V2 on a PC......saw a mate's PC with the game on it. just HAD TO have a PC, so bought my first one >>>> Pentium 133 with Win95 preloaded lol. i was thrilled at just being able to boot it up, use Paint, Calculator, watch all the great ScreenSavers and the Golf kept me addicted for hours at a time.

my first build was in 1999 >>>> an ASUS K7V SlotA/Athlon 700MHz T'Bird setup, with a 15Gb WD HDD. AND that HDD is STILL in use now today >>>> as a slaved backup drive.

my current build i did in 2005 >>> ASUS P4S800MX/Celeron D 330 2.66GHz/recently added 160Gb WDSE HDD and 1Gb Kingston RAM. Its quick and totally stable with WinXPHomeSP2 dual booted with WinME.

am EAGER to do another full build somewhere down the track hehe.

Everyone is right, building a computer is one of the funnest things I've ever done. Take your time (as was previously said), and don't forget to ground yourself before working. The first PC I ever built was an AMD Sempron 2600+ system, built back in '05. The first PC I ever used was a Cyrix M II 250MHz PC that my family purchased in 1999.

Hmm I wonder what happened to decency and morality? Doesn't anyone remember them?
