How easy is it to replace LCD on used laptop?

November 2, 2010 at 14:31:29
Specs: Windows XP, 2gb
i have picked up a second hand laptop which is having an issue with the lcd monitor. I knew this when i bought it, and I know its a very broad question but how easy are they to replace??
I have medium experience with computers, i have put one together from scratch, so that was no prob.
But as a rough guide is it a job that I should steer clear from? How long should I expect it to take (2 hrs, a day??)
I know noone can say exactly as everyone is different, but what is it in a difficulty level of 1 - 10?

First you need to gently prise the plastic screen surround apart, it can have 4 to 8 hidden screws under bungs etc.

Then remove the screws holding in the LCD Frame and lift out, it has two cables one which plugs in along botton and a ribbon cable to top which is normally covered by tape on the connection end.

The Screen will have a part number, bung that into ebay and for around £80.00 you will have a new screen.

When new screen arrives, you will need to swap over fixing frame and re-assemble.

30 - 45 minutes.

But is the Laptop actually worth the cost of the screen ??

Many thanks for your reply, yea the laptop is ok, I was going to do the work and re sell anyway.
I was thinking it may also be the back screen lights that are failing, but if its just as cost effective to change whole screen I may just as well try and get a colour match and do that!
