How does dualDDR work? I will be getting a new Athlon motherboard with the nForce2 chipset and dualDDR technology. Do I need to get special RAM or will any DDR400 RAM work properly? Do I need two separate DIMMs?
Thanks.

You can use any kind of ddr ram but you do need 2 dimms. You need to put them in the correct slots and I'm not sure but you might have to go into the bios to enable it.

Regular motherboards have one memory controller to handle reading/writing to memory. Motherboards with dual channel memory have two memory controllers. With two sticks of memory your computer can read/write to two sticks simultaneously if each is controlled by a different controller. Ex for a computer with three DDR sockets and two sticks of RAM:
1) DDR RAM socket - controller 1
2) DDR RAM socket - controller 1
3) DDR RAM socket - controller 2
To use dual channel mode you need to insert the RAM in sockets 1 and 3 or 2 and 3. This way RAM stick 1 is controlled by controller 1 and RAM stick 2 is controlled by controller 2.
It appears that the main benefit will be with motherboards with onboard video chips. For normal operations, tests I have seen show at most a 5% increase in performance using dual channel mode.Read carefully what memory is recommended by the motherboard manufacturer. Also, check forums such as:

If you have a 333MHz FSB processor and are going to overclock your system then PC3200 (DDR 400) memory can boost your system performance. If you are running your 333Mhz system at the default settings then PC2700 (DDR333) RAM running at the same speed as your processor 333Mhz (in sync) gives better performance.
