Solved How do I transfer mini dvs to my laptop, no firewire port?

Specs: Windows 7, Intel Core i5/2.40GHz/6gigs
My Toshiba L755 laptop computer does not have a firewire port or a pcmcia slot. I have an older Sony camcorder (DCR-HC62) and need the firewire transfer capability. I don't have the use of an older computer in which it seems that firewire ports were standard. A friend suggested the use of a 3rd party such as Pinnacle movie box. but that is an additional cost!

Interesting situation.. I dun a wee trawl via google using the search term/string:

firewire to usb

And found this:

I think it provides the perfect solution...

I appreciate his caveats/warnings about adapter cable - and that don't work...

If you duplicate my trawl you will likely find more similar/viable solutions?

Thanks for the link! Looks like just what I need to solve this problem. Seems, though. that the Pinnacle is very hard to find now so I'll be checking out ebay, amazon, etc.

Mmm - agree it's hard to find...

eBay/Amazon both have simple adapters listed... Bearing in mind comments in the link I posted earlier, I can't see any great risk in trying one of the listed adapters, as they are generally quite inexpensive?

I would incline to one that isn't rock bottom price, and possibly try a simple connector style adapter initially - rather than a cable style? Although the cable style may be equally ok - or not (applicable of course to both style...).

I have been reading up on the more basic converters with usb and see that those are not supported by my OS, windows 7 64bit! Seems that beginning with Pinnacle Moviebox 12 and above I would be OK! But the editing software is more advanced(which I really don't need) so the price is too high when you find one for sale. Had really hoped that this conversion process would be easy but doesn't seem so at this point. It would be great if someone just sold the conversion product by itself.

Thanks again for your continued support and help.
