Reply: (edit)That depends on exactly what you are trying to achieve. Do you want only a local network or are you looking to have shared internet access? If you have DSL or Cable internet then a possible setup would be MODEM V ROUTER VVVVV Client systems I'm not sure how you go about combining both a wired and wireless connection. You may be able to get a wireless uplink to connect from laptop to router. Or maybe you can get a router that has both wired/wireless capability. This is only one possible setup. there's more than one way to arrange a network. If you're not looking to have shared internet access then you would only need a switch not a router but still need some kind of wireless add-on to include the laptop. Of course it is possible to share internet without a router. One of your current systems would have to be set up as host to provide shared internet using either windows ICS or a proxyserver program. To work out the best solution you need to define your exact requirements. Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach him to fish and you feed him for life.

Reply: (edit)I agree with Richard but with just one comment. I would even think about using ICS with a five computer LAN so a router is going to be essential if Internet access is required, one with wired/wireless capability. You will also need a switch. Most SOHO routers have built in switches but I have not seen any with more than 4 ports and as you have 5 you are going to need an external switch. You will also need a NIC for each computer, a wireless card for the laptop and five lengths of cable to connect each computer to the switch. Stuart
