hi all,

How did you get to an install copy of partition magic if your CD drive doesn't work?

As far as I know there is no way to do that with only the software included with Windows and while running Windows. You either need to install a 3rd party app (like partition magic that you mentioned) or you'll need to get a working floppy or cd-rom drive (perhaps a USB one?) so that you can boot up to another OS or using a boot floppy/cd.

Like I said before. You will need someway to boot to something other than the active windows OS to repartition that drive. If you can't boot from a CD, floppy, or USB, then your only option is to get a program like Partition Magic working.

One last thing: you could pull the hard drive out of the laptop (some laptops this is easy to do, some it's almost impossible) and use an adapter (about $2) to connect it to a desktop PC as a slave drive.

Palmdev13:

Maybe you need more RAM. If the specs you list are true, why bother with the hastle, when a few new generic laptops start at approx $400?
