Solved How do I optimize a new HP envy computer for college?

March 2, 2013 at 09:27:22
Specs: Windows 8
Before I go off to college, I am going to buy a new computer. I've been looking, and the HP Envy desktop computer (windows 8, 10GB memory, 2TB hard drive, intel processor) seems like a good buy, but I am not very computer smart. First, is this a good computer (for regular use and for a bit of gaming on stuff like Starcraft II)? And second, is there anything I should get with it to optimize its performance?

An all-in-one machine? What is the exact model you're looking to buy?

✔ Best Answer
OK...read this review and any others you can find for the Envy h8-1430 you can find.

I don't care for the odd memory configuration either and the GT 620 is a low end video card for serious gaming. StarCraft II should play well on this machine.

It's a little cheaper at newegg. Free shipping & no tax:

If you're willing to sacrifice HDD space & RAM, this Dell will probably perform better in games due to the Radeon HD 7570 w/GDDR5 memory:

Fully agree with riider but too lazy to do the research. The Dell has the proper memory installed and a better video card.

Well, I see the game is over since you got the requested answer about your next computer, but let me add two words.

You said you are going to move to college, so why do you not consider to buy a notebook/laptop? Today notebooks can compete in performance with desktops and you can get the one suited for you at a reasonable price.

I am a desktop fan, but regarding your next days I stress my hint.
