How do I open Thinkpad-keyboard?

The keys around the red pointer device (trackpoint?) on my old Thinkpad laptop are really hard to press down. It feels like they are stuck on to something. Therefore I want to open the keyboard to clean the inside of it.
My question: How do I open the keyboard? The underside of it is just a flat metal surface with no screws.

Your manual that came with the laptop should have instructions on how to do so. Doing so will void your warranty if it's still under warranty. Otherwise, I think you can open it by prying softly with a screwdriver on the front (space bar bottom) or maybe the side of the keyboard to get the plate out. Make sure not to damage any of the wiring to the keyboard. If damaged you will need to use a external keyboard.

There are several models of Thinkpad laptops and there were different ways to do this in each.
I'll give you the answer to one of them (the only one I can remember off-hand)
There are two buttons you slide to open the laptop. Sliding the button one way opens the laptop. Sliding it the other way, then pressing in slightly will release the keyboard.
