I thought it was a monitor thing a first but this stupid thing keeps popping up every time I push the up/down or mute buttons on my keyboard. So obviously it must be a keyboard thing right?

Only problem is......I cant find an option to turn it off, and no one on the internet gives clear instructions on how to get rid of it either. It's a standard eMachines Ps/2 keyboard. the box is slightly grey, transparent, with a white speaker in the middle.

It pops up right in the middle of my screen and it's a huge annoyance, the only time it doesn't appear is when I'm playing a video game full-screen. (not sure what other details to give here folks so I leave the expertise to you)

I did a quick search & found numerous threads about the problem. It appears to be related to the monitor & the volume control for the built-in speakers. Run thru the menu settings by pressing the appropriate buttons on the monitor. Or download the manual & read thru it. I can't offer any more help than that because you didn't provide any model numbers for the tower or monitor, or even which x86 OS you're running?
