You can choose the F8 option to boot to command prompt. Or open a command prompt window while in XP. You can hit ALT and ENTER at the same time to toggle between a full screen and window.

That's as good as you're going to get with XP.

Virtual PC from Microsoft will allow you to run DOS virtually.
