I'm sure there's software that will tell you what you have, but I can't think of any right now...sorry, I just woke up...lol
Get the model number of the drive (if you don't know it, either check the drive itself, the BIOS or the boot screen)...go to the manufacturers website & check the specs
8mb buffer is somewhat recent, so if you have an older drive, it's probably 2mb...I think Western Digital was the 1st to come out with an 8mb buffer, then Maxtor followed...I'm not sure about other brands...

The model number printed on your drive; speed fan, belarc advisor or most other hardware utilities can read your hard drive model.
