|I have a similar problem.|
My mini-usb plugin on my external HD, WD My Book Essential 1.5 TB, broke. I tried several things to get it back on, everything from soldering it to using super glue... Nothing worked. So I took the HD out and put it directly into my computer. It is recognized in the BIOS and in disk management, but not under my computer and in disk management is shows as unallocated and it wants me to initialize it. Obviously initializing it will get rid of the data so I do not want to do that. I have tried several data/partition recovery tools and none of them work. The most I have gotten is some raw files that register as SWF and a GZ document; now maybe it could be that the GZ being a compressed document contains the files but when I try to open it, it shows as damaged. I am not sure what the SWF files would be being that they are flash files and each are over 1 gb, and I have never heard of extracting data from a flash file or it being used as a compressed document.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: Also, I am using Windows 7 Ultimate x64, Mainboard : MSI 785GM-P45 (MS-7623)
Hard Disk : Western Digital WD15EADS-11P8B1 ATA Device (1500GB)
above is the HD that is unallocated
