OS: WinXPProSP2 updated
CPU/Ram: Pent 4 3.2 2 Gigs Ram
Product: ASUS P5P800
Comment:

I am venturing into digital video and need to know how you would update this system and why. Would like to squeeze another year out of my current system and give Vista time to mature. I can not afford to purchase a new system with the fast harddrives, expensive video card, faster memory, etc that I really should have for video. Recommendations please? Please be specific with video card as I plan to update it.

My system consists of:
Motherboard: ASUS P5P800 with 2 Gigs of memory
Case: Theramlake Shark with Antec 480 watt Neo Power
OS: Windows XP Pro SP2 fully updated except for Explorer7
Video Card: GeForce MX4000 (looking for new card that works well with digital video camcorder)
HD: 2 each Maxtor 120 Gig ATA
DVD: DVD RW CDRom
External HD: Model TOSHIBA MK4025GAS USB Device 40 Gig

TIA for your valued help.

You don't need a digital video card. To input a digital video signal from your camcorder you probably need a proper input port, probably firewire and the right software. Check your manual.

Thanks for your help. I have firewire ports to transfer videos to my computer for editing.

I read that my current video card will cause the videos to appear on my monitor less than acceptable. It is a $35.00 video card and certainly not usable for DirectX 9 or greater as required by the software. Thanks again for posting.

I'm guessing you're not a gamer so you won't need a top-of-line card, but you should at least get something that supports DX9. How much are you willing to spend?

Need to keep it around and preferably under $100.00 if at all possible. Thanks

Looks like it would be what I can use but after reading the return policy, I will pass and leave these items to those more adventureous souls. Thanks for the suggestion however.

I have only heard of Nvidia and ATI so I am not familiar with this company. It says they make ATI cards. Looks like it would do the job. I will look into it more. Thanks much for your post
