Comment:

I purchased a 40gig Western Digital HD and now 2 months after expiry of warranty this hombre decided to start(?) croaking on me. After a total refusal to startup I reformated only to find 2.5MB of bad sectors. Its going again but I want know how bad is this, should I start thinking of buying a new one? What makes me a bit peed off is that I never got to using more than 8 gig of the drive anyway, defragged regularly and the pute is definitly not manhandled in any way.
Thanks guys

Buy a new Hard Drive. Hard drives have extra sectors built into it to take the place of ones that go bad. Scan disk or whatever doesnt start marking sectors as bad until all the "reserve" sectors are used. Consider a new HD.
