I have several hard drives that i use to store various items, images, videos music etc for work. What i have been doing up until now is swapping the hard drives using my usb enclosure and i also have a internal swap bay thing installed (which requires a reboot every time i swap). I want to have all drives and any additional drives i purchase later available all the time. Is this possible? How many drives can i have on a single IDE cable? I dont mind having all drives external, i just want them available all the time. TIA.

I believe max EIDE HD's would be 4 (2 per channel), but then you would have no other devices (CD Rom,etc)

Get some more enclosures and install the HD's in them. You can install a lot of USB devices compared to EIDE.
A more expensive option is a server that stores all of your files. I saw some at Best Buy for $250 and up

If you plan to add drives later, I'd recommend you purchase or make external USB 2.0 HDDs.

Expanding on Response #3. You can add a PCI controller card, if you have an open PCI slot. It will let you add 4 more drives. Make sure you get one with 48bitlba compatibility. That will let you attach drives over 137gb in size.
