Hi. I'm not very good with computer hardware so I was wondering if you guys could help me and understand what my problem is.

My computer is a dell xps and I had an old maxtor ata hdd that I would like to add as a secondary hdd for storage. I looked on my motherboard and saw taht there are no ports on it for the ribbons, so I guess I can only use sata hdds.

So my friend has this converter thing which plugs into the back of the hdd and makes it sata. I did that and when I started up my computer, nothing changed from before I had the hdd.

So I rebooted and went into set up and turned on the sata port and the computer wouldn't load into windows because i think it said that it didn't recognize there being a hdd in that port.

If you guess could help me that would be great because I dont know what to do.

Did you change the jumper on the old drive from Master to Slave or CS?
