I have a 5.1 channel amplifier (Lasonic DBX-510) just laying around and I figure maybe I could hook it up to my PC. The amp. have a 9-pin DIN input and uses a 9-pin DIN to 6 RCA cable and connects to a DVD with a 5.1 (6 total) RCA out put.
I have no idea if this would work though. I'll use three 3.5mm to dual RCA adapter. 1 for both front-left and right, another for rear-left and right. Though I don't know if it work for the center and sub. Any feedback or other method?

Hi, Not sure that your going to get the effect your after with out a 5.1 sound card in your box, but if you have all the gear "lying around" give it a go I say. Oz

I'd say definately get a 5.1 soundcard w/ a digital output. If it's a Dolby Digital 5.1 amp, it should have digital inputs (sp/dif [coaxial] &/or toslink [optical]).
I have a little Mini-ITX box mounted in my home theater for use as a divx/xvid player. Gets wireless 'net and outputs to a progressive TV (s-video, analog) & a DD5.1 receiver (sp/dif).
