I know this probally sounds really stupid, but, is it possible to hook a laptop up to a desktop to run off the desktops power??

No, not possible. Not unless you are an electrical engineer and can appreciate all the problems you are likely to encounter and can take steps to prevent them. Otherwise you can expect to see clouds of blue smoke.

What do you mean by "run off the desktops power??"

Run off the desktop's power supply or use the desktop's processing resources?

If you want the latter, you'd need to configure the laptop to run as a thin client, and the desktop to be the host server. I have no clue how you'd go upon doing that. :-))

As for electical power, then no way.

Remote desktop would be the easiest way.

But alas, I think he means desktop electrical power.
