Uh, here is an interesting question. I was reading an article somewhere about the capabilities of modern DVD players (the home entertainment kind, not in the computer). It got me thinking about what one of those things could do, or more precisely: what could be done to it? I understand that a DVD player does not have alot of memory. But the processor cant be too weeny because it does have to process digital video and an occasional slide show.
I wonder if there would be any way to mount/chop/solder/slice more memory, like a hard disk and reprogram the thing. It would be nice to at least be able to load different codecs on the thing to watch .avi or .mov files through your DVD player. maybe even view text files....
Turn the single-purpose unit into a versatile multimedia entertainment system
Does anyone else have any ideas??
Even ever thing about things like this??
