Comment:

I have just installed a new graphics card on my system, specifically the GeForce 4 Ti 4200, 128 MB...However, a few days after the installation I have had very frequent instances where my monitor goes into a state of complete distortion. I basically get the same thing that is visible on TV's when turned into a channel that does not exist...

I have tried different sets of drivers, chaning the refresh rate, setting different resolutions: all to no avail...Any clue on what the problem is?

System:
1.5 Ghz
512 MB Ram
4x AGP
350 Watt power supply

If you have your old graphics card I'd suggest putting it back and see if the problem persists. If so then it's not the card but something else. You don't say which brand Gforce4 Ti 4200 card you have. A little googling came up with conflicting info on whether the cards are 8x AGP or 4x. I know any 8X AGP card is supposed to be backwards compatible to a 4X slot but check your motherboard manual for the AGP voltage your board provides just to be sure. Were you overclocking the old card? Maybe a CMOS reset will help. Other than that If you have another monitor try that to eliminate that as another source.

Well, this is a Gainward card, and it does support AGPx4..I have done some research on this issue earlier, and the resetting of CMOS seemed to come up quite frequently cocerning such issues..I would like to try this, but I have absolutely no idea how or what it involves..Is the option for this within the BIOS?

..and no, I have not overlocked either of the cards. I will try to put the old one in and see what happens, however. Thanks a lot for your suggestions.

There is usually a jumper to reset bios on the Mobo. Easier still- unplug the computer, then remove the CMOS battery for a minute. Battery is round about the size of a quarter. Either way, unplug the power cord before you open the case.

Check Device Manager to see if their is a hardware conflict.

After checking Device Manager, the card is indeed working properly. Resetting the CMOS did not help.
