Subject: Help!! XP won't boot w/Promise ATA/133
|
Comment: I've successfully installed the Promise Ultra ATA/133 card with a new Maxtor 80GB drive on my older ASUS P5a and I've installed XP with the intention of this being the primary boot drive but the problem is after installation XP won't load!! The XP splash screen comes up and just hangs there, I've re-installed about a dozen times to get the same thing. The odd thing is that XP will load about every 5 installs but then quits as soon as you reboot. I installed my older working drive on the controller rather than the IDE port on the MB and the exact same thing happens. It works great as a slave but I need it as the master. Anyone with any ideas please help!! Also, no go in safe mode either.

Reply: (edit) You probably got hardware resource conflict.. Try move some of your video cards on pci slot to another open slot. Or change your hard drive setting to LBA instead of Normal.that might be the problem too.. if you have any problems, just e-mail me.

Reply: (edit)I have actually moved stuff around on the board to no avail. I can't set the drive to LBA because it's not recognized by the bios, it's controlled by the Promise card. I know many people have posted similar stuff on here but never saw any rock solid answers.

Reply: (edit) The motherboard has its own hard drive controller. It does not have to support ATA/133 for the card to work at rated speed in a PCI slot. As for Windows XP not loading, you should call Microsoft tech support about it.
