I would partition & format with DOS.

Then when you start the XP install, watch for a prompt asking if you need to load SCSI drivers.

If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.

Okay, i think im confusing my self and everyone else...ill start over...
Im building a computer, i didnt want an IDE 133 HD because i noticed there is even better ... so i bought a SERIAL ATA 150 Maxtor HD. When i try to set up the OS it says it cannot detect a hard drive...it is looking for an IDE 133 HD. Im NOT try to do raid..all i have is one HD..the ATA 150, how can i make the setup reconize this HD, how can i make this the primary in the Bios, is there some jumper im magically missing?. ...Did i just buy the wrong HD...can this only be used for Raid configs?
Hopefully youll understand a little better now.

I think SCSI and SATA drives both need drivers to be loaded at start-up so that the system can recognise them - I'm taking the prompt from the 'press 'X' to load scsi drivers' when OS is installed. Try the mfg website.

Your motherboard should have come with a driverdisk that has the SATA driver needed by XP Setup. Press F6 when prompted and load up the required driver.

I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

check the BIOS to make sure the HDD is being recognized. Do you have the proper connections to the hard drive? There should be one coming from the MoBo (use SATA1 MoBo socket if there is more than one socket) and one coming from the PSU. Once it is recognized in the BIOS, as mentioned partition and format before installing the OS.
