Reply: (edit)Did you plug the card into the PSU? Are you sure your PSU can handle the extra load? Asus A7N8X-X 1800+ @ 8.5 x 200MHz 768MB PC3200 2.5-3-3-7 Asus A9550GE/TD 128MB WinME/WinXP Pro

Reply: (edit)It has to be connected to the power supply! Did you read the manual? Look at the pic on the link you just posted...see the white connector near the edge of the board? It uses the same 4-pin molex plug that's used for HDDs & optical drives Asus A7N8X-X 1800+ @ 8.5 x 200MHz 768MB PC3200 2.5-3-3-7 Asus A9550GE/TD 128MB WinME/WinXP Pro

Reply: (edit)check to make sure there isnt a bios update to make the motherbaord recognize the card. I had the same issue with a newer GeForce and an Abit board. After updating the Bios it was fine.

Reply: (edit)I doubt you need a BIOS update. You haven't answered my question...did you connect the video card to the power supply? Asus A7N8X-X 1800+ @ 8.5 x 200MHz 768MB PC3200 2.5-3-3-7 Asus A9550GE/TD 128MB WinME/WinXP Pro

Reply: (edit)First you need to research it and verify there is in fact a conflict. Go to your motherboards website and look for the bios update section. There should be a list of 'fixes' with the bios updates. Chances are there will be a 'nvidia issue' in one of them (the bios updates are backward compatible so if there was a fix two versions back, the newest will include it). There will also be directions for flashing/updating your Bios. If yours is a newer board, you may have a windows bios updater that actually does it for you. If not, you'll have to boot to a floppy and do it from there but, there will be step by step directions on the site with the download. Follow them closely as you can absolutely screw your board up if you mess it up. A failed bios flash can send your mobo straight to the trash if it is bad enough. Dont freak out though, it isnt hard.

Reply: (edit)Dude, you sure are a NOOB! What do you think powers your entire PC? Could it be the power supply? Hmmmmmm.... The power supply is a rectangular box, usually located in the upper rear of the case. It has a bunch of wires/plugs coming off of it...there's a separate plug for the board, the hard drive, the floppy drive, the CD drive, etc. Usually there are a couple of extras ones. One of these plugs MUST be connected to your video card! If you had read the paperwork that came with the card you would know this! Here is what a 4-pin molex plug looks like: http://www.hardwarezone.com/img/data/articles/2004/1192/tutorial-4pin_molex_power_conn.jpg The plug fits into a connector on your video card that looks like this one: http://images.anandtech.com/reviews/video/NVIDIA/SLI/ezplug.jpg Now, here is a link to your video card: http://usa.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?m=N6600/TD&langs=09# Click on the pic of the card to enlarge it. Look closely at the picture, near the edge of the board...do you see a connector that looks like the one in the above pic? Connect one of the unused 4-pin molex plugs from the power supply to that connector. Asus A7N8X-X 1800+ @ 8.5 x 200MHz 768MB PC3200 2.5-3-3-7 Asus A9550GE/TD 128MB WinME/WinXP Pro

Reply: (edit)jam - you take this one, I didn't see your powersupply questions. I just saw the initial stuff and happened to have a similar issue to what he initially described.

Reply: (edit)High end video cards need a lot of power...more power than the AGP or PCI-E slot can provide, so the direct plug-in from the PSU has become necessary. It's not for the fan, it's for the GPU & RAM. This should explain it better than I can: http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20041110/buyers_guide-24.html Asus A7N8X-X 1800+ @ 8.5 x 200MHz 768MB PC3200 2.5-3-3-7 Asus A9550GE/TD 128MB WinME/WinXP Pro
