Solved Help USB all files are hidden

August 4, 2015 at 02:16:31
Specs: Windows 8
All of the folders and files on my 16 GB USB thumb drive cannot be seen.
A DOS dir command report shows an un-named folder and there is only 1.5 GB free

How can I rename this folder to hopefully gain access?

See if any of these links help:

They all pretty well follow the same routine; but possibly there is variation in one or more that may also apply?

Also... do NOT rely on flash drives/memory sticks/cards for serious (long term) storage of important files etc. They are not reliable enuff for that. They can and (frequently do) fail. for many reasons... If the content on the device is important, at least copy it to CD/DVD; and ideally make two sets...

Thanks TRVIR
I actually found a few similar threads and simply applied a suggested DOS attrib command and have recovered all files.
I am now in the process of deleting all the prank shortcuts that have been written to all the folders.

attrib -h -r -s /s /d d:\*.* (NB d: > replace with your drive letter)

Might be useful too at this juncture - to scan your system (and the flash drive too if possible) - for assorted pests/malware?

Junkware Removal Tool (JRT)

JRT installs to the desktop - from where you run it. It will open to a small dos style window; follow the instructions therein. It will reboot system as past of its process.

are four that are regularly recommended here; all free and safe to use.

Install each via the manual/custom option: NOT the automatic. Even then carefullly look for and uncheck any pre-checked boxes (helpfully pre-cchecked for your convenience).

Always use the manual/custom option when installing "anything" off the web... What goes in via the in automatic option will be a real train of irritants, unwanted additions, changes etc.; some a real PAI to eradicate...

Your most welcome... Remember - "anything important" - save to CD/DVD; and if possible even an external hard drive too.

Bonne chance
