What version of WinXP is installed? Choices are Home or Pro? Right click on My Computer and choose Properties. The screen that appears should say which version you have.

Do you have installation disks for WinME?

I asked you if you have ME install disks? Possible to install ME in a dual boot configuration.

I don't think there are any drivers for Winn2000/XP available. The latest version I found was WinNT. You could search at Driverguide and see if someone has found a compatible driver.

Another option might be to install Virtual PC 2007. VPC is not offically supported on XP home edition but it supposedly works.

What Virtual PC 2007 does is allow you to install WinME inside WinXP. This would allow you to use the scanner.

You need more RAM than normal and you need ME install disks.

Might be cheaper to buy a cheap scanner or pay to have something scanned.

For what it's worth: I tried to install Win98 on a XP Home machine with VPC and it wouldn't go.

Ok I finally made it work. But now it works only if I open it with my MGI photosuite4. What i mean is it doesnt appear on my device manageer. Before it was a usb device(and tahts how i installed it) but now I was trying to autoinstall it using the add an imaging device and its not working. Looks like that was the problem....Add an imaging device wont let me install it cause seems like its searching for .inf extension and mine arent with this new driver I found. NOw then can anyone tell me if that matters and how to fix it? cause at least now it seems to be recognized by Mgi.thanks

It appears you have already installed it so it won't install again. If you can scan by using MGI photosuite4 then the scanner is installed.

Have you looked carefully in Device Manager to see if it is listed somewhere in Device Manager? The scanner must be turned on.

If there is no ON/OFF switch then activate the scanner using the MGI software. While it is activated look in Device Manager to see if there is a listing for it.

The scanner has to be associated to some software in order for it to function. I am not sure if WinXP has that function built in or not because I use the bundled software with my scanner.

Have you looked in Control Panel under scanners and cameras to see if the scanner is listed there?
