Help replacing touch screen on MSI Wind Top AE2010.

Gigabyte / G31m-es2l

Specs: Windows 7 Ultimate, 3.2 GHz / 4094 MB

So my MSI Wind Top AE2010 touch screen panel was broken. The screen still works, but the glass behind the plastic film shattered into pieces making the touch screen unusable. Since my warrantie ran out, I decided to open it up and remove it in order to purchase the part to replace it.

The problem is I don't know where to purchase the replacement. I think this one may work but am unsure:

Your help will be greatly appriciated.

HI Josep,

You do not advise your location, which may help.

I may be wrong, but the ebay item you have found appears to be an add-on touch screen for a machine that does not already have a touch screen, and does not include the broken glass you refer to.

Also it is not cheap!

Suggest you further research to locate the correct spare you require.(maybe a broken unit for use as spares).

Have you checked with the Maker's website customer service? Here is their UK webpage:-

If only a glass panel is required, could one be made from a picture frame glass of the correct thickness?

Please advise back on progress.

Good Luck - Keep us posted.

Thanks for the response Mike.

My location is in the Los Angeles area in the US.

I had my doughts about that screen I posted from ebay also. Good thing I posted this question before jumping on it blindly.

I will continue searching further but it would be greatly abbliged if some more help suggestions were posted.

Sorry I wasn't clear erlier... Both the glass panel and the plastic touchscreen film are broken.

I was wondering if this one would be okay:
Although it's a dell I was thinking maybe I can remove the touch screen panel (including the both the glass and film) and connectors and place them on the MSI since they are exactly the same size and dimmension. But again, I'm unsure since the picture is too small and are unble to see weather the connectors are the corrispondants.

Hi Josep,

I have learned recently (when using Ebay) that items in the US seem far more expensive than the same in the UK.
e.g. a laptop battery was around 3 times more than here.

Still think you should ask the maker (in the US) how much the spares parts you require are. You should have no problem with them working.

At the same time, if you know someone in the UK, ask the question here.

Good Luck - Keep us posted.

I think I've solved my issue. But, I would still like a second opinion before going through with it. Someones help confirming this will be greatly appriciated. (It will also most likely make your post as best answer, since my issue will've been solved.)

Hi Josep,

it seems a lot of money for a used item, then shipping charges on top.

Did you check how much as new (or maybe used) one is from MSI?

They may even have a fitting service.

Good Luck - Keep us posted.
