I am totally baffled any help woudl be appreciated

Does the bios see the hard drive, cd-rom and keyboard?

This sounds like a bios or chipset problem.

Yes, it is possible. May not be your problem but a bad floppy has killed more than one system.

I think you have a secondary ide controller on that board. Try plugging your hdd and cd-rom into it and leave the primary channel free. You'll have to change the hard drive parameters over in bios. Also, let us know exact model of your hard drive.

Well the hard drive i was trying is a 6gb Seagate. nto sure of the model, the otehr was a 4.3gb Tri Gem hd (both were free gifts from friends). and the floppy issue is no go, i tried that unplugging it. so no luck their (tho floppy drive is probably bad) anyway ill try putting them both on the 2nd ide channel , or the first or vice versa and ill get back to you, im going to bed, been wrokign a while on it, will continue tom

Thanks

Nick

i have the same board in one of my systems. it seems pretty flaky. anyway, make sure the floppy drive is connected to the end of the cable, after the twist. if the cable doesn't have a twist, use one that does.

you wouldn't happen to know where i could download a manual for this board, would you? gigabyte's website doesn't really support it, other than a couple bios updates (v3.33 consistently produces a "bios rom checksum error" with my board, be forewarned).
