Subject: Help! Problem upgrading ram
OS: XP
CPU/Ram: 2.2/1g
Model/Manufacturer: Dell Dimension 2400
Comment:

My friend just bought a stick of:
1 GB ddr PC2700 333mhz
for his Dell Dimension 2400 desktop. We installed it and seated it correctly, but when you turn on the pc, the bios loads to around halfway, then hangs and will not boot.

Any help is appreiated!

Did you check to see what RAM is compatible with the computer. The RAM is probably not compatible. The reasons for that can be capacity, timing, chip density. You need to determine what can be installed prior to buying.

Remove the RAM and then go online to crucial.com and use their memory advisor or if available, let crucial examine the computer. Crucial will recommend RAM modules that are guaranteed to work. Free shipping too.

It could simply be defective RAM. Take the new stick out & see if the system will boot as normal. Then try the new stick by itself & see what happens.
