Oh, i forgot to mension that it is not a heat problem, CPU never goes beyond 52c and mobo never beyond 30c
There are also new fans in the case so there is good airflow and the PSU is also new and got a 12mm fan on it sucking hot air out.

I thought maybe it is the Cmos battery because its 3 years old?

It's not the CMOS battery.

Try reseating the power connectors and the RAM. While you have the cover off, it wouldn't hurt to check the CPU fan.

Hi,

Heat was the first thing I thought of, but 52C seems OK.

When it freezes, no BSOD?

Just a normal screen and nothing will move?

You got something intermittant. Try disconnecting CD, other HDs etc.

Seems unlikely to be CMOS batt if you're not losing settings and not getting checksum errors.

Yes.. it's just normal screen and nothing will move, no BSOD.

I tried disconnecting both my cd drives and i dont have any extra HDD's but the problem is still there.

I also know it's not the CMOS battery because i tried 3 different and had no luck.

My instinct tells me it's on the mobo.

But I don't know enough about it to guess where.

This is out of left field, but here goes.

Are you using an LCD or TFT monitor?

The TFT & LCD are the very thin screens, whereas a CRT is usually at least a foot from front to back.

The reason I ask is because some TFT/LCD monitors will leave the picture on the screen even if the PC is stopped.

But a CRT must be refreshed, usually 60 or more times per second.

So if you have a CRT monitor, the PC must be running [but frozen].

See if you video card is hot.

And try reseating it.

ok so i have a CRT monitor..
I'm pretty sure its not the videocard,
Its a GeForceFX5900XT with fan and it's also crashing with other Videocards..

Have you recently installed SP 2?

Does the system freeze on any particular program ?

Gaming?

Your power supply may not be supplying relable voltages to your graphics card.

Also, are you sure that when grounding the card to the back rail with hold down screw that you are not tipping the forward edge of the card up?

The card needs to be seated evenly.

I agree with ddp59 that MOBO diagnostics are in order,if you have done a card swap and still get crashes, something has gone wrong.

Is 512mb memory enough to support the GeForce card?

Also, the cooling fan on the graphics card, to be effective, has to be seperated as far as possible from any other cards, if you have any other cards next to the GeForce, it isn't getting sufficient airflow.

Also look at Device Manager to see if there are any conflicts between devices sharing ports, this could be related.
