I want to play dvd's or other video from my computer to my large screen tv, how do I do this? What type of video card would give me the best tv quality video. I am going to have a home theater in my basement so the computer will be dedicated to just playing video or surfing the net using the tv.
Any help would be appricated, there does not seem to be much info on the net about this stuff, or I just have not found the right site.
Thanks in advance, this site is so kick ass for these kinds of things.

Any of the ATI All in Wonder Products would be just right for what you need? connects via the s video or composite yellow jack on TV...

Suggestion: Ati All in wonder 9600 thru 9800 Pro ($210-$339)

http://www.ati.com/products/multimedia.html

also they have TV tuners which turn your computer in basically your own TIVO...

actually better than S-video and composite yellow would be DVI. Only problem is DVI only comes on some of the newer cards, and not on all televisions.

How would the resolution be? Would it be just like watching digital cable on the TV? I have a 9600 with DVI and S-Video is that good enough? What type of computer would be good for this? CPU, Memory, Sound Card?

Thanks again for the help.

Dude,

just buy yourself a $50 Apex DVD player and a $45 cd burner and you are set to burn some vcd'd to watch rather than spend money on a video card and cables. If i read between the lines correctly you are watching movies you downloaded? correct? then all you need id nero to burn them to cd. and you would have them for whenever you want without cluttering you HD. Just my 2cents
