I have been using Pinnacle Studio AV 7 for over a year, and have had excellent results (combined with Nero for burning VCDs). It is easy to use, and costs about US $179 (ver. 8). There is a digital video version available also (Studio DV). It includes a capture card (PCI) and software for editing your movies, voice overs, background music, etc. Works best with HD formatted in NTFS, as there is not a file size limitaion for your movie files (4 Gb for Fat32). It automatically converts AVI files to MPEG for burning, too. HTH

We got a device that plugs into USB port and has RCA plugs to accept input from VCR. It includes software to let you play tape and record to digital. Then you can save them in several formats and burn to CD. Was only about $65. I'll see if I can find out where we got it and post back.
