Comment:

I recently built a new computer that worked fine...
for about a day.
I tried to install a modem, but even after removing
it, I don't get past windows startup.

BIOS log says: CMOS checksum error, CMOS/
GPNV checksum bad.

Sometimes I get three beeps at startup,
sometimes not, but either way even in safe mode I
never get past the startup bar for windows 2000.

Any help would be appreciated!

BTW it is an Intel 865GLC motherboard

Sounds like the CMOS settings were erased, or your battery went dead/was pulled out inadvertently.

Set your BIOS back up properly.
